Not A Done Deal Yet

Highbury Canco Corporation is still working to finalize a manufacturing, warehousing and distribution contract with HJ Heinz.

Highbury Canco President Sam Diab says, “nothing’s done yet. I’m feeling enthusiastic about where we’re at, but this is a big undertaking, so we just need a little more time to finalize the details and we hope to have some more information in the future.”

Diab thinks the next few weeks is a fair timeline to be able to deliver the good news. His company still plans to put 250 people to work, using what will become the former Heinz plant in Leamington.

Yesterday, sources close to the industry confirmed that ten local tomato growers have already signed contracts with Highbury Canco: five in Chatham-Kent, four in Leamington and one in Harrow. Heinz used to draw from 43 growers in the region.
