World War One veterans are front and center at Memorial Park.

A large crowd gathered at the front gates of the park on Ypres Ave. in Windsor Friday morning to rededicate a monument, honouring 837 men and women who fought in the war.

World War Two Veteran Larry Costello says it used to sit farther back in the park, and has been vandalized in the past. “A monument like this should always be in clear view for the public so the public will know what our fellow Canadians, fellow veterans, are capable of doing to help us live in freedom, as we do today.”

The City of Windsor and the Windsor Historical Society made the decision to move the monument this year, as it marks a century since the beginning of World War One.
