The Essex Post Office is set for downsizing according to CUPW Local 500 Vice President Jennifer Grant.

The remodeled post office is scheduled to open for May 12, 2014 and will be a third the size of the current setup. The Essex location will see hours reduced as well with the branch currently open from 8am-5pm, but as part of the downsizing, the office will close at 4pm.

“We get a lot of people coming in between 4pm and 5pm trying to get there to pick up their parcels and mail; things after work. They’re basically not going to be able to do that,” says Grant, noting the downsized office comes with reduced service. “They’re going to basically be able to sell stamps and will be able to sell priority express post and basically just regular mailing.”

Canada Post has already downsized offices in Leamington and Amherstburg.
