A portion of the former St. Michael’s High School in Essex could be sold off for a developer looking to build a boutique hotel.

Essex Town Council will receive an appraisal for the vacant portion of the building, which shows it’s worth $245,000 on the open market; $300,000 if the gymnasium is included in the deal.

Councillor Bill Baker presented the motion to sell the building and says it’s an opportunity to make some money from the vacant school. “There’s a lot of sports-related opportunities in that area with the twin pad arena. But, in itself, it’s a very good area to look at (a hotel), it would help boost opportunities.”

A satellite office for the Essex OPP and a library branch currently occupy the portion of the building which isn’t up for sale.
