Policy Recommendations from Agri-Food

The latest policy paper released by the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce makes recommendations for improvements to the agri-food business to the Ontario government.

The recommendations range from connectivity to the power grid to allow greenhouses to operate 24/7, removing regulatory burdens and increased consultation with stakeholders.

Cole Cacciavillani from CF Greenhouses says the paper also recommends more post-secondary education opportunities. “We’re importing people from Holland, Spain, overseas to do some of these growing jobs and management jobs to understand everything that goes on in a greenhouse. We should be training these people here and producing our own people.”

The policy paper also addresses the need for wineries to have more accesses to the Ontario market. The paper will be sent to provincial policy makers for future decision making.
