Security concerns with the heartbleed virus are shutting down government websites across Canada, but it won’t impact Internet voting in Leamington this fall.
Director of Corporate Services Brian Sweet says the municipality has spoken with its Internet voting company and says the virus won’t have any impact on the voting system. “They have an extremely secure system. They have specific parts of their system that this specific virus won’t impact. So, we’re not concerned about the heartbleed virus.”
Leamington is one of the only Windsor-Essex municipalities offering only Internet voting as an option.
The municipal election is October 26.
