A’burg Budget Deliberations Continue
Amherstburg councillors continue to whittle down the 2014 Budget.
After the third day of deliberations the current tax levy, including the county and education levy, would increase 4.81%.
Councillor John Sutton says they had to make some sacrifices to bring down the budget from a 10.1% municipal increase. “Like the elimination of the yard waste depot. So right now we’re down to just curb side pick up every other week for that. So the convenience of having a yard waste depot in the municipality will be eliminated.” Councillors also decided to put off purchasing GPS units for a few town vehicles, cut overtime hours for certain departments and cutback a few hours at the Libro Centre.
Another day of budget deliberations will be scheduled to consider further cuts to the budget.
