Along with quarterly reports outlining what is being transported by train through Tecumseh, CP Rail will also provide further safety measures in case of a derailment incident.

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara met with CP Rail officals on Thursday and says following discussions, CP is offering training sessions for local firefighters on railway safety equipment and how to best deal with certain materials that are transported by CP trains.

“That’s what’s near and dear to us, is when our first responders do respond to those (incidents), that they’ve got the tools and they’ve got the know-how, and the training to deal with it,” says McNamara.

As well, McNamara says first responders will now have access to CP’s emergency dispatch. This will also ensure emergency crews are well informed in a timely manner on the contents being transported through the town in the event of an emergency.
