Board Ponders Brennan CCH Future

The director of education at the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board says it’s time the province approved construction on a new high school in downtown Windsor.

There’s a recommendation to close Catholic Central High School in 2016. Paul Picard says the facility is inadequate. “There is no sports field, no place to run gym classes,” he says. “The site is at capacity so that students have to walk down an alley to the upstairs of a strip mall a block away for some of their classes. That’s just unacceptable.”

The board’s options for the students at Catholic Central are limited. Picard says both Holy Names and Assumption are either at or close to capacity. Another recommendation would send Grade 7 and 8 students living in the Riverside area to F.J.Brennan, bringing it up to capacity.

There is a public meeting at 6pm at F.J.Brennan tonight for parents with children attending Riverside area schools like St. Rose, St. Maria Goretti, and St. John Vianney.
