The Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team is one of the big winners at the 9th annual WESPY Awards.

Star guard Miah-Marie Langlois took home Top Female Athlete of the Year and Top Female Basketball Player of the Year awards at the Windsor-Essex Sports Persons of the Year awards show on Tuesday night.

“I think Windsor does a wonderful job recognizing each and every athlete and it just shows how great of a community we are,” says Langlois, who will have to find space for her latest award to go with her four CIS basketball championship medals. “It’s on a shelf with many but, it’s not about the material things; I do it because I love the sport and I’m just glad I could be recognized.”

The Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team took home the WESPY Team of the Year award while coach Chantal Valleé grabbed the Coach of the Year honour.

Catholic Central football star Khaliel James was the Top Male Athlete of the Year while St. Anne’s volleyball player Alana Gyemi took home the Mickey Renaud Captain’s Award for leadership.
