Museum Receives Federal Grant

Federal government funding is now in place to help recreate the first floor of the art gallery building at 401 Riverside Dr. W into a community museum.

The City of Windsor received $2-million from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to make the improvements. The Joseph Chimczuk bequest of $3.2-million is still involved in a legal battle but council has chosen to move forward with the renovations.

Manager of Cultural Affairs Cathy Masterson says an RFP has already been issued to hire a firm to do the work. “The timeline is incredibly tight. Anything that is eligible for funding through this grant needs to be completed by March 31, 2015. Then some of the exhibition work will take place a few months after that.”

The entire project should be completed by fall 2015.  The Art Gallery of Windsor will remain on the second floor of the building.
