Leamington Budget Deliberations Underway

Some residents in Leamington could see a reduction in their 2014 tax levy.

Budget deliberations continue but if approved, residents in rural Leamington could see a reduction of 0.12%. While urban residents could see an increase of 0.16%. That’s $4.15 for the average household costing $150,000. Both could see further reductions when the county and school board levies are considered.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson says he is very pleased with the budget as it stands now. “We’ve already handled the Heinz situation, we just haven’t discussed it public yet but those have been allowed for in this budget. The reduced assessment level we know is going to happen from the Heinz plant.”

Increased insurance costs and the loss of assessment were major pressures on the budget this year.
