Memorial Arena Future Debated file photo of Essex Town Hall.

The future of Essex Memorial Arena will be debated by council tonight, with two groups looking to use the facility over the long term.

The Essex Ravens and Hurricanes soccer club will once again ask council to install flooring for indoor sports at the old arena.

As well, Linda Iler is one of the officials with the Southern Ontario Military Muster, who will ask for the arena to be turned into a military museum. “This museum, if it were to transpire, would be for military vehicles as well as smaller artifacts.”

Town officials are proposing an engineering study of the building to determine what future uses are possible at the decades old rink. Council has also budgeted money to demolish the building.
