Strike Looms At Caesars Windsor
The president of Unifor Local 444 describes talks between the union and Caesars Windsor as delicate.
Dino Chiodo hopes the union will have a deal before tonight’s strike deadline. If not, 2,300 workers will hit the picket line at 12:01am Friday.
He calls a strike the last resort. “Caesars Windsor is the second biggest employer in Windsor, Ontario today,” he says. “Shutting that type of operation down would take millions of dollars out of tax coffers, would create a lot of disruptions within the community, and we’re working diligently to try and avoid any type of situation that might cause that.”
Chiodo says remaining sticking points include contracting out and so-called blackout days; days the employer does not allow workers to take time off.
