73’s Take Game 1

Essex iced Wingham 5-3 in the opening game of the Schmalz Cup semi-finals.

Nine different Essex players registered at least one point. However, the team took a number of penalties, giving Wingham seven powerplay opportunities, killing off six of them. Essex also gave up a shorthanded goal in the third period.

Goalie Darien Ekblad made 20 saves to pick up the win.

Game 2 of the series is Friday night in Wingham at 8pm.
