The Essex 73’s are just one step away from their second straight Schmalz Cup final.

The team standing in their way is the Wingham Ironmen, who they kick off a best-of-seven series with tonight.

Essex Captain Corey Beaulieu says it’s always a bit nerve-racking going up against a team you’ve never faced. “The past couple years (in the Schmalz Cup tournament) we’ve played teams like Grimsby, so you know a few players on their team and hit and miss points, but we’ve never seen Wingham before. I’d never even heard of Wingham before and they’ve probably never heard of us.”

Puck drop for game one is set for 7:30pm in Essex.
