Province Approves Lakeshore School Projects

Trustees at the Greater Essex County District School Board discuss a few of the school boundary changes to be made in the Belle River area, June 18, 2013.

The Ministry of Education is giving the Greater Essex County District School Board approval to go to tender for construction work at Belle River and Lakeshore Discovery public schools.

Superintendent of Business Cathy Lynd says the two projects are expected to cost about $4.8-million with the money coming from the province.

“We’re just excited to get the approval to proceed and look forward to having this ready,” says Lynd, noting construction timelines haven’t been finalized yet. “We’ll go to tender as soon as we can and we hope to get going and have it substantially completed before school opens or shortly thereafter.”

The work includes an eight room addition for Belle River Public School as well as renovations and an addition at Lakeshore Discovery Public School ahead of full-day kindergarten programs being rolled out at those schools. The projects come after the boundaries were changed for the school areas meant to relieve enrolment pressures.
