Kingsville Council has approved the replacement of all 3,000 town owned street lights with new LED fixtures.

The old orange coloured lights are being replaced with the brighter white lights, which reduce light pollution.

It will cost $818,000 up front and Mayor Nelson Santos says the electricity savings will pay it off in six years. “They will start the install this year, and have it on an annual basis for the next six years provide money toward the install.”

The replacement includes town owned lights in Ruthven, Cottam and rural areas.
