Labour Liking Regional Transit Force

The Windsor District Labour Council is throwing its support behind the idea of regional transit.

Transit Windsor Board Chair Bill Marra recently started a regional transit task force, and the council hopes that it will be able to sit in on future group meetings.

Community Environment Representative for Unifor Local 444 Mark Bartlett says he’s concerned about protecting transit jobs, but it’s much more than just that. “Getting people, who can’t afford a car, to work is important. The environmental benefits, the reduction of greenhouse gases that would result from a regional transit system, and an increase in rail transit are what we’re concerned about.”

Bartlett, much like Marra, would like to see regional transit become an election issue this year, not only on a municipal level, but provincial as well.
