An embarrassing 7-0 loss for the Dorchester Dolphins in Essex at the hands of the 73’s in their Schmalz Cup series opener.

“We got the puck in deep,” says Philip Janikowski, the 73’s forward earning the hard hat in the dressing room after a three goal performance. “We stuck to the game plan, cycled the puck and we just got shots on net and we got a few lucky bounces early on and it went in.”

Matthew Herbet added three assists and captain Corey Beaulieu finished with a goal and an assist. Darien Ekblad finished with 27 saves for the shutout.

73’s defenceman Aaron Thibert left the game in the third period after taking a hit and is questionable for Game 2 in Dorchester on Friday. Dolphins forward Shayne Rhyno and 73’s defenceman Dan Mainella were both ejected from the game in the third period for fighting after a Rhyno hit on another Essex player.
