Severe thunderstorms possible Thursday evening

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for London-Middlesex and Elgin County

The watch has since ended for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada said on Thursday that a line of thunderstorms is approaching Ontario from Lower Michigan, which is capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

The national weather agency said the storm is expected to hit the Windsor area between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. before diminishing late in the evening.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that residents in the affected areas take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
