Some Bluewater Schools Face Uncertain Future

Families with youngsters in the Bluewater District School Board system are up in air over the future of their schools and board trustees want some action from the province.

An independent consultant’s report tabled last spring suggests as many as 18 Bluewater board schools close by 2018. But everything is on hold until the province comes out with promised revised guidelines around school accommodation reviews.

Board vice-chair Terry Bell says people are worried what’s going to happen to their schools but can’t plan strategies to keep them open until the guidelines are revealed.

“Yhey need to be able to┬áplan to mobilize the community so the community has an opportunity to speak to let everybody know why they want that school to remain where it is,” says Bell.

The province has only said the guidelines around accommodation reviews will be out in the near future.
