Kincardine Nuclear Waste Burial Hearings Wrap Up TodaySeptember 18, 2014 6:10am
This is the final day of hearings in Kincardine by the Joint Review Panel looking at OPG’s plan for a deep geologic repository for nuclear waste.
Following last night’s council meeting, Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer stated that he was pleased that the independent experts group that was hired and agreed with all the work the municipality had done over the years, as well as OPG’s analysis of it.
He points out the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the panel all came to the same conclusion that there would be no significant adverse environmental effects from the DGR.
Kraemer says all the work done by dozens of people has stood up against incredible scrutiny by the world’s experts.
Presenters today at the hearings at the Kincardine Legion include Jill Taylor of Save Our Saugeen Shores and David Shier of the Canadian Nuclear Workers Council.
