St. Thomas police say a head-on collision Tuesday night on Fairview Ave. happened because a driver was distracted by a spider.

A 56-year-old woman driving south on Fairview Ave. spotted a spider in her car and lost control when she started swatting it. Her vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on.

A 41-year-old woman behind the wheel of the other car wasn’t hurt. The driver of the vehicle with the spider in it was taken to St. Thomas General as a precaution, and charged with careless driving.
