City Pays Over $5M In Insurance Premiums

Sarnia Council will be taking a look at a staff report Monday night that says the city has spent more than $5-million on insurance since 2011.

The city is insured with Ontario Municipal Insurance Exchange (OMEX), who has paid out roughly $11.5-million on behalf of the city over the same time period.

Mayor Mike Bradley says this is part of the cost that goes with running a city, and adds that the insurance covers a wide range of potential claims.

The director of finance for both Sarnia, and OMEX were consulted for the staff report, that will be released to council Monday night.
