Young Sarnia golfer wins in London, eyeing LPGA

A young Sarnia golfer is hoping to play on the LPGA Tour someday.

Narisse Daye, 14, is coming off a recent tournament win at the CJGA Fanshawe College London Open at Firerock.

The eighth-grader fired a final round of 79, including a chip-in eagle on hole 16. She finished the two-day tournament at 23-over par to take top spot in the Bantam Girls' division.

In an email to Sarnia News Today, Narisse's father Brooke Daye said his daughter immigrated to Canada last summer after growing up in Taiwan, and that she speaks Mandarin and Taiwanese.

"I have had a club in my hand my whole life but started to take lessons from my coach in Taiwan in 2017," said Narisse in the email. "I play every day [and] I am a nine handicap right now."

During her recent win, Narisse said she played some of her best golf, and at other times some of her worst.

"I am still learning how to play 18 hole golf as Taiwan didn't provide much access to playing, so I make silly mistakes from time to time," she said. "I feel like a rookie in those moments but I made some nice shots and was able to shoot a good score."

Narisse, a junior member at Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, said while the win felt great, the competition is strong and golf is a hard game.

"So I take it as a sign of improvement and I get back to work," she said.

Narisse also said she thinks the win is one of her biggest accomplishments to date.

"I believe that the Sunday round, getting my first eagle in competition and shooting six-over are very important accomplishments," she said.

Narisse said some of her goals in the sport include winning the Canadian Women's Amateur, playing golf at a Power Five NCAA school and then playing on the LPGA Tour as a pro.
