Sting extend win streak to six games

The Sarnia Sting extended their winning streak to six games Friday night after beating the Soo Greyhounds 6-3.

Ethan Ritchie opened up the scoring for the Sting with 35 seconds left in the first period.

Ethan Del Mastro, Luca Del Bel Belluz and Sasha Pastujov all scored in the second for a 4-1 lead over the Greyhounds.

“A bit rusty there in the first and second, but we got out to a good lead,” said Nolan Burke. “Nicky made some huge saves in the third to keep us in there and then we just pulled away. It was a pretty good win.”

Burke scored his team-leading 44th goal midway through the third for a 5-3 lead. Marcus Limpar-Lantz also added an empty-netter in the final minute of the game.

Sting goalie Nick Surzycia didn’t face many shots throughout the night.

He made two saves early in the third period after the Greyhounds cut their three-goal deficit to one.

“The team played great defensively all game,” Surzycia said. “Going into the third period, I only had nine shots, which is a great feeling, a great rest.

The Sting stand six points behind the West Division-leading Windsor Spitfires for second place in the conference.

The Sting will host the Kitchener Rangers at 2:05 p.m. Sunday.
