Burke scores flurry of goals in Sting's rout of Storm

Nolan Burke scored four goals in the Sarnia Sting's 9-1 thumping of the visiting Guelph Storm Wednesday night.

Sarnia's Sasha Pastujov had a goal and two assists against his former team, Easton Wainwright, Ty Voit and Ethan Del Mastro also had three-point nights, and Luca Del Bel Belluz added a pair of goals.

Wainwright opened the scoring at 5:13 of the first period and Del Bel Belluz and Burke both scored in the final two minutes of the frame to give the home-side a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Sting kept coming in the second period with three more goals. Pastujov's power play marker at 11:53 was sandwiched by two goals from Burke at 8:31 and 18:03 to give Sarnia a 6-0 lead heading into the third period.

Former Sting Max Namestnikov finally got Guelph on the board 56 second into the final frame. Namestnikov, who now has 21 goals on the year, was involved in the trade for Pastujov back in November.

Sarnia netminder Ben Gaudreau would turn away the final seven shots from the Storm -- he made 22 saves on the night -- and the Sting would score three more times in the period to take the game 9-1.

After the game, Burke said his team didn't take their foot off the gas pedal all night. He was also asked about his four-goal performance.

"Sasha had two great passes to me, Voit-er had two great passes to me and I was just there to finish them. When you're playing with great players, it's pretty easy out there."

Pastujov, who joined Burke at the press conference, said it felt really good to pick up a win against his former team.

"I was telling Burke-ie on the way up here that it feels like Christmas day to beat them, but then to beat them like that, it was unbelievable," said Pastujov. "But it's just a regular season win, and we got two big [games] against London this weekend."

The win snapped Sarnia's mini two-game losing streak. The Sting are third in the OHL's Western Conference, and if the postseason started today, the hockey club would host the Storm in the first round.

Sarnia is back in action Friday night in London against the red-hot Knights -- they've won nine straight to move into top spot in the west. The two teams will wrap up a home-and-home in Sarnia on Saturday night. Both games can be heard on CHOK (103.9 FM/1070 AM).
