Sting winning streak stopped by 67's

The Sarnia Sting's six-game winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to the visiting Ottawa 67's.

Sarnia's Nolan Burke and Ethan Del Mastro each had a goal and an assist in the loss, and Sting netminder Ben Gaudreau made 26 saves. It was Sarnia's first loss since January 15 in Ottawa, a 2-0 defeat.

After a scoreless first period, the 67's took a 2-0 lead on goals by Vinzenz Rohrer and Logan Morrison at 1:09 and 6:53 of the middle frame. Burke got Sarnia on the board at 13:55, a power play maker and his team-leading 31st goal of the season. Ottawa restored its two-goal lead at 17:15 on a shot from Luca Pinelli, making it 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Sting pulled to within a goal at 7:30 of the third period when Sandis Vilmanis deked his way past Ottawa goaltender Max Donoso for his 12th goal of the season. About seven minutes later, Brady Stonehouse made it 4-2 on penalty shot. The two-goal lead was short-lived when Del Mastro scored for the home-side just 16 seconds later but that's as close as the Sting would get.

Nearly 4,000 fans took in the game from the Hive, well above Sarnia's average attendance for the season of roughly 3,100. The Sting also wore their honey themed jerseys for the game, designed by eight-year-old Annie Mason. The jerseys will be available to bid on until Wednesday night with money raised supporting PC Children's Charity.
