Sting down Otters 5-2

Sarnia Sting forward Ty Voit led his club to a 5-2 win in Erie Sunday afternoon.

Voit, the OHL's leading scorer, had a goal and an assist and was the named the game's first star. The Maple Leafs' prospect has 60 points in 36 games this season.

Marko Sikic also had a goal and an assist in the win, and Sting goaltender Nicholas Surzycia made 25 saves for his ninth victory of the season.

Sarnia's Nolan Burke opened the scoring less than a minute into play with his team-leading 23rd goal of the season. The Sting led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Sarnia's Marcus Limpar-Lantz made it 2-0 at 4:34. The Sting increased their lead with goals from Voit and Sikic at 7:43 and 7:48. The Otters responded eight seconds later to make it 4-1 before the Sting restored their four-goal lead at 19:01 on a goal from Cooper Way.

The Otters added a power play goal at 9:20 of the third period, but that's as close as they would get. Erie has dropped 10 of their past 11 games.

The Sting will go for their third straight win in Peterborough Thursday night. Coverage on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM) begins at 6:30 p.m.
