Sting fall to Attack 6-2

The Sarnia Sting couldn't get much going at either end of the ice in a 6-2 loss in Owen Sound Wednesday night.

Sarnia's Sandis Vilmanis and Easton Wainwright scored in the loss, and goaltender Ben Gaudreau was pulled after the second period after allowing five goals on 22 shots.

The Attack opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period on a goal from Matthew Papais. Deni Goure made it 2-0 at the 12:30 mark.

The Attack struck again less than two minutes into the second period when Ethan Burroughs tipped in a point shot. Vilmanis got Sarnia on the board at 14:25 of the middle frame, but Owen Sound responded with goals at 17:55 and 18:17 to lead 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Wainwright pulled the Sting within three at 3:04 of the third period with his second goal of the season. Goure restored the Attack's four goal lead with a power play marker at 7:28, his second goal and fourth point of the game.

Sarnia finished the game 0 for 8 on the power play and they outshot Owen Sound 31-28. The Attack went 1 for 2 with the man advantage.

The loss drops the Sting to 8-6-1-1 on the season, putting them in third in the OHL's West Division. Sarnia is back in action Friday night when the club hosts Saginaw -- coverage on CHOK (1070 A.M./ 103.9 F.M.) begins at 6:30 p.m.
