Corunna native Rob Thomson and the Philadelphia Phillies are heading to the World Series.
The Phillies edged the San Diego Padres 4-3 in Game 5 of the NLCS Sunday night to take the series 4-1. Philadelphia's Bryce Harper hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Thomson was named the Phillies interim manager in June before he was given a two-year contract extension earlier this month. The 59-year-old is the first Canadian full-time MLB manager since the 1930s. Thomson is also the first Canadian manager to lead a ballclub to the World Series.
The Phillies will face the Houston Astros in baseball's Fall Classic -- Game 1 goes Friday night in Houston.
