Sting orientation camp to showcase top draft picks

Sarnia Sting fans can get their first look at the club's newest additions this weekend.

The Sting's 2022 Orientation Camp gets going Friday evening with registration and fitness training.  On Saturday, the public is invited to attend the Draft Class on-ice session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said draft picks from the U16 and U18 drafts will be in town for the weekend.

"This group has our first round pick in Porter Martone who's an exciting player.  It'll be great for people to see him on Saturday," said Seca.  "And our two third round picks in Sean Doherty and Carson Campbell, two really intriguing young players, they'll also be here too."

During this month's Under-18 Priority Selection, the Sting selected three players: Mississauga Reps forward Cole Cooksey, Don Mills Flyers goaltender Marcus Ouellet, and forward Aiden Long from the Hill Academy U18 Prep team.

Seca said the camp is about getting comfortable, meeting people and getting in so that when the players come back in the fall, they're ready to push for a spot.

"The orientation just means a chance to meet the coaching staff, jump on the ice.  We get a chance to see them in the gym, and from there, climatize themselves with our organization," said Seca.  "Really it's just a chance to let the players get accustomed to the expectations that we have as an organization."

Seca said it would be great to see some young fans come out to see the new players.

"It's your first glimpse.  They're on their own in their own age group, there's not the returning players kind of causing some pressure stress around their games.  It's just them excited, and I think it'll be a great opportunity to see these guys play."
