Sting fall to Spits 5-2 in Windsor

The Sarnia Sting were beat by the Windsor Spitfires 5-2 in OHL action Thursday night.

The visiting Sting were first on the board when Nolan Burke scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the year just over four minutes into the game.

Spitfires forward Matthew Maggio responded shortly after, tying the game at ones at the 6:14 mark.  Maggio would score again at 8:56 of the first period, this time on the powerplay, giving Windsor a 2-1 lead.

With under three minutes to play in the opening frame, Sarnia's Nolan DeGurse evened things at twos.  However, the Spits had another quick response when Alex Christopoulos scored just over a minute later to make it 3-2 after 20 minutes.

Windsor's Will Cuylle scored the lone goal in the middle frame, his team-leading 24th goal of the year.   Jacob Maillet would add an empty netter for Windsor late in the third period before the final horn blew.

Sting goaltender Dylan Grover made 22 saves in the loss.  Spitfires netminder Mathias Onuska turned away 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

Sarnia is back in action Sunday afternoon when the club hosts Kitchener.  Puckdrop on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) goes after 2 p.m.
