Third period collapse costs Legionnaires vs Rockets

The Sarnia Legionnaires gave up four third period goals in a 6-3 loss to the visiting Strathroy Rockets Thursday night.

The Legionnaires were leading 3-1 late in second period when Rockets forward Branden Speziale cut Sarnia's lead to one with 13 seconds on the clock.

Strathroy came out strong in the third, scoring three goals just 1:24 into the final frame.  The Rockets would add another goal midway through the period, en route to the 6-3 win.

Legionnaires head coach Derek DiMuzio said his team made mental mistakes.

"Those are mistakes where guys were a little bit on their own page and we can't have that.  We have to play for 60 minutes, tonight we played about 30," said DiMuzio.  "Lack of execution -- guys know what do to, it's just up to them, they have to execute."

Legionnaires forwards Brayden Degelas, Austin Harper and Ryan Richardson all scored in the loss, and Sarnia goaltender Ethan Everaert made 30 saves.

The loss drops the Legionnaires to 5-17-0-1 this season.  Sarnia is back in action Saturday night when the club hosts Leamington.

Thursday night's game saw the Legionnaires host its annual Penny Lilley Memorial Wooly Toss.
