Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement dinner cancelled

For the first time since its inception 38 years ago, there will not be a Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement dinner in 2020.

Hall of Fame President Pete Coenjarts said Friday the event this fall is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said no individuals or teams will be enshrined this year, but the hall will accept nominations throughout the remainder of the year for the class of 2021.

If large gatherings are permitted by next October, many people might be hesitant to attend such a function," said Coenjarts in a media release. "There has been talk of simply naming a class of 2020 and handing out plaques, but the board of directors wants to retain the tradition of welcoming teams and individuals into the hall with a celebratory dinner."

Coenjarts said the event usually draws a crowd of 400 or more.
