Sting's Perreault possible first round pick in NHL draft

The Sarnia Sting's Jacob Perreault could hear his name called during the first round of this year's NHL entry draft.

He's ranked the 17th best North American skater in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings ahead of the 2020 event.

That's the same position he was in when the midterm rankings came out in January.

This season was Perreault's second in a Sting uniform. He scored 39 goals and added 31 assists for 70 points in 57 games played.

In his rookie campaign he potted 30 goals and dished out 25 assists in 63 games.

Rimouski’s Alexis Lafreniere remains at the top of the list, followed by Sudbury’s Quinton Byfield, and Jamie Drysdale of the Erie Otters.

Defenceman Jake Sanderson from the Team USA program, and Ottawa 67's forward Marco Rossi round out the top five.

The date and location of the draft remains in question because of the coronavirus. It had been scheduled for the Bell Centre in Montreal on June 26-27 but was postponed March 25.
