Flags, Flyers set to get PJHL playoffs underway

The Mooretown Flags host the Dresden Kings on Wednesday night to kick off the opening round of the Provincial Jr. Hockey League playoffs.

The Flags finished second in the West Stobbs division with a 33-7-0-0 record and 66 points, six back of first place Lakeshore.

It was a record-setting season for Mooretown, with a franchise-best in wins and points. Dresden comes in as the seventh seed with 28 points.

Max Steeves led the way for Mooretown with 65 points, while Brock Perry had an outstanding 19 goals and 39 assists for 58 points in just 16 contests.

Flags starting goalie Jake Wilkins posted a record of 23-6-0-2 with a 1.97 GAA and .940 save percentage. He set a new franchise record for career goalie wins with 60.

The series shifts to Dresden on Friday, and will be back in Mooretown on Saturday night. You can hear Wednesday's game live on CHOK at 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, the sixth-ranked Petrolia Flyers head to Amherstburg to take on the Admirals in the opener of their series.

During the regular season, the Flyers were 14-22-1-3.

Curtis Helps was Petrolia's leading scorer with 16 goals and 26 assists and 42 points. Defenceman Eric Marsh had 38 points of his own.

Petrolia hosts game two of the series on Thursday night at the Greenwood Rec Centre.
