Legionnaires fall to Komoka in double OT

The Sarnia Legionnaires (12-19-1-3) came up just short, losing 3-2 in double overtime to the visiting Komoka Kings (13-18-1-3) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday.

Komoka jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period on a powerplay goal by Spencer Lapointe.

Jake Vince responded with two quick goals in the second period, including a powerplay marker of his own, to put Sarnia ahead 2-1. Matteo DeBlasio dished out his first assist as a member of the Legionnaires on Vince's first goal.

The Kings tied the game before the end of the frame on a goal from Luc Arsenault.

After a scoreless third period and first overtime, the Kings' Jacob Rochford sealed the victory.

His goal came on the powerplay, after Josh Barraclough was handed penalties for a head check and unsportsmanlike conduct with under a minute to go in the first overtime.

Overall, the Kings scored twice on eight powerplay chances, while the Legionnaires scored once on five opportunities.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning stopped 27 of 30 shots. Rahul Bola turned aside 36 of 38 shots in the Komoka crease.

Sarnia is eighth place in the nine team Western Conference with 28 points. Komoka is two up, and St. Thomas is eight back.

The Legionnaires are back in action on Saturday in Strathroy, and next Wednesday in London.

Their next home game is Thursday night against last place St. Thomas.
