Sting's Perreault headed to top prospects game

Sarnia Sting forward Jacob Perreault has been invited to the 2020 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

The 25th annual showcase of 40 of the CHL’s top prospects eligible for the NHL Draft will be played January 16 in Hamilton.

Through 28 games played this season, Perreault has 19 goals and 22 assists. Last season Perreault was one of two rookies to hit the 30 goal-mark, he finished fourth in rookie scoring with 55 points, and was named to the Ontario Hockey League All-Rookie First Team.

Perreault, 17, is among 19 players who received ‘A’ ratings as first-round candidates determined by NHL Central Scouting.

The 40 players chosen by NHL teams to take part will represent 31 of the CHL’s 60 member clubs with a total of 17 OHL players, 13 WHL players, and 10 QMJHL players.

The players will be divided into teams and announced along with coaching staff in January.

Last year’s game in Red Deer showcased 12 CHL players who would go on to be selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, including Sting forward Jamieson Rees.

In 24 years, a total of 329 CHL players from the event have been chosen by NHL clubs in the first round of the NHL Draft representing close to 45 per cent of all players selected.
