Sting get revenge in Sault Ste. Marie

Last Sunday the Soo Greyhounds came to Sarnia and left with a 5-2 win over the Sting.

It was payback time in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday as the Sting beat the Hounds 8-3.

With the Sting trailing 1-0 on a goal from Alex Johnston (7), Jacob Perreault (11) opened the scoring for Sarnia on the power play at 15:08 of the first period.

With 20 seconds left in the period Jamieson Rees (13) gave the Sting their first lead of the game.

Eight minutes into period two Joseph Mack (3) tallied for Sarnia followed by goals from Brayden Guy (5) and Ryan McGregor (8).

Rory Kerins (12) scored for the Soo as the Sting took a 5-2 lead into the third.

Ryan Roth (12), playing his first game back in Sault Ste. Marie since being traded to Sarnia, scored to open the final frame.

Jacob Holmes (3) scored for the Greyhounds before Perreault (12) tallied his second of the game into an empty net at 15:22 before Nolan Dillingham (2) completed the scoring for the Sting, ending a three game losing streak.

Following the game Roth was asked what it felt like returning to the Soo.

"It was a bit weird at the start but once you get the first couple of shifts out of the way it's just another game."

Roth said the offensive surge wasn't a surprise. "With the forwards we have on our team the scoring's never going to be an issue. We may struggle a couple of games but we have a lot of guys who can put the puck in the net."

The Greyhounds outshot the Sting with Sarnia goalie Ethan Langevin coming up big stopping 42 of 45 shots while Hounds' tender Bailey Brkin made 19 saves.

Sarnia visits the Flint Firebirds Sunday with the pregame show starting at 1:35 p.m. on CHOK.
