Vikings cruise to victory in LKSSAA final

The Northern Vikings senior girls' basketball team is once again the top team in Lambton-Kent.

The Vikings captured another LKSSAA title over the weekend, beating Ursuline College 68-31 in Saturday's final from Lambton College.

Northern will now host the St. Thomas of Villanova Wildcats Thursday night in the SWOSSAA final -- tip-off is at 7 p.m. from the Sarnia secondary school on Michigan Avenue.

Vikings Head Coach John Thrasher is confident his team can pickup the win and advance to the OFSAA championships later this month.

"Our goal right from the start was to get a medal at OFSAA, so we're one game away from getting to OFSAA and then we'll see what happens," he said. "This is the deepest team we've ever had -- we go eight players deep, we're big, our two starting post players are 5'11 and 6'1, we have about a 5'10 girl that's a forward, and we probably have one of the best players in southern Ontario as our point guard, in Cassidy Hirtle."

Thrasher said Hirtle is a good team leader and good two-way player -- the grade 12 student is set to attend Laurier University next fall.

The Vikings finished the regular season and playoffs 10-0.
