Sting beat Firebirds in Sarnia

The Sarnia Sting held on for a 7-5 win over the OHL's Western Conference-leading Flint Firebirds Friday at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

It was the Sting's sixth win in their last seven games after beginning the season 0-7.

Sean Josling led the way for Sarnia with three goals.

Josling, who leads the team with 13 goals and 17 assists, said the team is improving every game.

"I think we've got better every game. The guys are starting to click and we have a lot of young guys on the team getting more and more games under their belt and it's helping us a lot."

The top line of Josling, Jamieson Rees and Ryan Roth combined for 11 points. Roth scored twice and added two assists while Rees had four assists.

Josling said "We practice every day together so just knowing where each other is on the ice helps out a lot."

Kelton Hatcher and Sam Bitten also scored for Sarnia.

Dennis Busby, Evgeniy Oksentyuk, Jack Wismer, Ethan Keppen and Connor Roberts scored for Flint.

Newly-acquired goalie Jordan Kooy made 29 saves for Sarnia while Luke Cavallin turned aside 31 Sting shots.

Sarnia visits Owen Sound Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The pregame show starts at 7:05 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
