Legionnaires lose overtime thriller against London

The Sarnia Legionnaires (3-6-0-2) lost a 6-5 thriller in overtime to the visiting London Nationals (11-1-0-0) on Thursday night in GOJHL hockey play.

Logan Gardner scored a hat trick and added an assist for the Legionnaires, while Brayden Krueger netted a pair of goals including a shorthanded marker.

London jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead on goals from Ryan Martin, Josh LeBlanc, Max Vinogradov and Eric Guest.

The Legionnaires stormed back to tie the contest 4-4 with three goals in the first five minutes of the second frame. LeBlanc's second goal of the night put London ahead 5-4 after two.

Gardner completed the hat trick with a powerplay goal in the third period to tie the game 5-5.

Guest's second goal of the night won the game for the Nationals in overtime.

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles was pulled from the game after giving up five goals on 18 shots. Nolan DeKoning turned aside five of six shots in relief.

Bryce Walcarius made 16 saves on 21 shots in the Nationals crease.

Sarnia sits tied for seventh place in the Western Conference with eight points, matching Komoka and St. Thomas.

The Legionnaires will host London again next Thursday night at Sarnia Arena.
