Sting's Perreault first round candidate for 2020 NHL Draft

Sarnia Sting sophomore forward Jacob Perreault could hear his name called early in the 2020 National Hockey League draft.

The 17-year-old is listed as an "A" level prospect by NHL Central Scouting in preliminary rankings that came out this week.

That means he's a first-round candidate, and is one of only 25 eligible players to be given that distinction.

Other OHLers with an "A" ranking include London's Antonio Stranges, Sudbury's Quinton Byfield, Erie's Jamie Drysdale, Windsor's Jean Luc Foudy, Marco Rossi from Ottawa, and Cole Perfetti from Saginaw.

Alexis Lafreniere of the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic is still projected to be taken first overall.

Perreault had 30 goals and 25 assists in 63 games last season and has eight points in the first five games this year.

Former Sarnia Legionnaires defenceman and Sting draft pick Brendan Kennette was given a "C" ranking.

He had five goals and 17 assists in 46 games with the Legionnaires last season and has seven points in 10 games with Burlington of the OJHL this year.
