The Sarnia Sting are off to their worst start ever after dropping a 5-3 decision to Guelph before 2,375 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Sunday.
The Sting have lost their first five games of the 2019-2020 OHL season and are the only team in the 20-team league without a point yet.
The Sting again got off to a slow start, falling behind 3-0 early in the second period.
Second period goals by Sam Bitten and Ty Voit, his first in the OHL, would draw the Sting to within one after 40 minutes.
The Storm scored again in the first half-minute of the third but Jacob Perreault responded just two minutes later to keep the home team in the game.
The young Sting could not net the equalizer and the defending OHL champions scored again with just over three minutes left to put the game out of reach.
Ethan Langevin went the distance in goal again for the Sting stopping 30 of 35 shots. The Sting had 28 shots on goal.
Bitten, the games second star with a goal and an assist, said they have to be ready to go at the start.
"You never want to start the season oh and five but in the second and third we showed that we were the better team," said Bitten. "There were a couple of unlucky bounces at the end but I think our starts are killing us, we knew we had to come out hard but we just didn't do that. It's really unacceptable and we have to be better for sure."
The Sting are home again to the Peterborough Petes Friday night and in Windsor Saturday night.
