Former Sting star Stamkos hits 700

Arguably the Sarnia Sting's most famous graduate, Steven Stamkos hit a career milestone with the Tampa Bay Lightning Monday night.

"Stammer" fired home three goals in signature style in a 6-3 win on home ice over the New York Rangers.

The second marker, was his 700th career point in 696 games, in his 11th NHL season.

Stamkos would add a third goal to complete the hat trick, the ninth of number 91's career and the most in Lightning history, passing Martin St. Louis.

The 28-year-old from Markham is the third Lightning player to reach 700 points joining St. Louis (953) and Vincent Lecavalier (874).

He's also the first player from the 2008 NHL draft, in which he was the top pick, to hit 700.

Stamkos was also the top pick in the OHL Priority Selection, and compiled 100 goals and 97 assists in 124 games with the Sarnia Sting in the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons.

In January of this year he returned to Sarnia to see his number 91 lifted to the rafters before a capacity crowd at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
