Northern set for football final

The Northern Vikings senior football team will look to stay undefeated Friday night in their championship showdown against Chatham-Kent.

The Vikings are a perfect 7-0 this season, including a 21-6 win back in September over the same Golden Hawks team they'll meet in the final.

Despite that outcome, Vikings head coach Craig Davies said his team will need to bring their A-game Friday night.

"That first game could've gone either way," said Davies. "The Golden Hawks are really good. They have a good, strong running game, and probably an even better defence. I think it will come right down to the end because we have a lot of respect for them and their coaching staff."

Davies said his defence, which hasn't allowed more than 15 points in any game this season, is a big reason they made it to the championship game.

"We got some very talented kids that buy in to the system. Pretty stout, and basically it comes down to effort level -- they work hard right to the whistle."

Davies said with the cold and wet conditions, he believes the team that wins the turnover battle will have the best shot at taking the LKSSAA title.

Kickoff from Norm Perry Park in Sarnia is set for 6 p.m.

The winner will move on to play in SWOSSAA.
