Hugo Leufvenius scored both goals for the Sarnia Sting Thursday night but they couldn't corral the Colts, losing to visiting Barrie 3-2 in overtime.
After scoring in the second period to give the home team a 1-0 lead, Leufvenius added his 8th goal of the season early in the third to put the Sting up 2-1.
Aidan Brown tied the game, however, with less than three minutes to play in the third, and Lucas Chiodo tucked home his 11th of the season on a wrap-around in overtime to give the Colts the win, before 2,458 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Leufvenius said it was a good effort by his team, but they lost momentum in the final period by taking penalties.
"I think we created a lot of chances, we worked them hard, had a good first period, and came out in the second pretty strong too," said the Swedish forward. "But then we got too many penalties and lost a bit of momentum, gave them too much, and then it was kind of hard to come back."
Both goaltenders played well. Sting rookie Ethan Langevin made 30 saves while Russian Maksim Zhukov stopped 26 shots.
Adam Ruzicka had two assists for the Sting who were without rookie forward Jacob Perreault who is playing for Canada Red at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in New Brunswick. Perreault had a goal in a 5-2 win over the U.S. in pre-tournament play Thursday night.
