Sting Cough Up Big Lead To Ice Dogs-- Lose 6-5 In OT

The Sarnia Sting seemed to have their 8th straight win in the bag midway through last night's game.

With just under 3 minutes to play in the 2nd period, Adam Ruzicka scored his team-leading 27th goal to give the Sting a 5-1 lead. But less than a minute later, the momentum shifted in favour of  the Ice Dogs.

Two Niagara goals late in the period, then two more in the 3rd sent the game to overtime. Midway through the extra frame, Sam Miletic fired home his third of the game to give the Ice Dogs the 6-5 win.

The Sting took eight minor penalties throughout the game leading to three Niagara power play goals.

This was the second time this season Sarnia has blown a big lead and lost-- back on Dec. 2, they lost to Saginaw 7-6 in OT after leading that game 6-0.

It was a packed house in St. Catherines as 5,495 people attended the annual "Pink in the Rink" game in support of the Canadian Cancer Society-- the Ice Dogs wore pink jerseys for this one.

Jordan Kyrou moved into top spot in the OHL scoring race with 2 goals and 1 assist in the loss, and goaltender Justin Fazio stopped 46 of the 52 shots he faced.

The Sting play Saturday night in Erie, then head to Hamilton on Sunday.
